In this comment, I mentioned that I would be attending a Bible study group. The topic of the class was Gen 1-3, although, the teacher (facilitator?) ended up bringing in lots of bits from other places.
I didn't have a bad time, but I didn't have a good time either. I agreed to go before I knew what the topic was. Since it was a Christian Bible study, I just sort of assumed that it would be New Testament heavy, and might conceivable have something I was interested in. That was not the case. There were a few parts that were interesting, but it didn't really engage me intellectually. I didn't expect to be engaged spiritually, but held out some hope that it would be intellectually engaging. Or, that it would be more interactive than it was. The teacher encouraged questions, but the emphasis was on getting clarification, to make sure everyone understood what he said. That's not really interactive. I guess textual analysis goes like that, regardless of whether or not the text is considered spirtual, or the Word of God, or whatever.
